Copying text very slow in Word:mac 2008

When I copy text from Word to place into another app, there is a long delay while Word seems to do a word count and then save something (at the bottom of the window it says "Saving" with a progress bar, but it doesn't seem to be saving the document).

Has anyone else encountered this? It is seriously hampering my productivity, I hope there is some way to get around this.

I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.1 on an iMac G5.

I have not seen this and I¹m also on an iMac G5 using Word 2008. Some
questions: Does this happen with all documents or only a particular one(s)?
If the latter, what¹s the source of the document(s)?

Try the basic troubleshooting routines (which you¹ll find here:
<http://word.mvps.org/mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html>), especially
decorrupting docs, testing the Normal template and testing for damaged
prefs.

Many thanks for your reply.

the files are mainly from PC users - Word 97-2004 format. But it happens with all files.

I have not had a chance to try these troubleshooting routines as yet, but will when I get a chance. I will, of course, report back here once I have.
