Corporate Event Planners

Hi I am a newbie to Microsoft project, I just have the trial right now. I am
an event planner for a newspaper. I have created timelines in excel is there
anyway to incorporate them into project? If so how?

Also, I am looking to incorporate my company into this timeline as I am
constantly relying on editorial and advertising for different pieces of the
events i.e. honorees, sponsors etc.

Any recommendations for a class out there?
