correct URL to use to hyperlink a word document

Hello. I am trying to create a hyperlink to a Word document on my website. I
have uploaded the file through an FTP client, and have tried all manner of
different URL's to create the hyperlink, and I am not getting something
right. I have read other posts on the community related to hyperlinks and
downloading documents, and I still can't figure out what to do. Any help
would be appreciated. Thanks!

First a couple of suggestions:

Instead of a Word file, make it a pdf file for it is an easy task to get and
put a pdf reader on a computer at no cost. Not everyone has Word.

On your Internet Provider's server create the folder, Downloads. This way
it isn't likely one would delete the files available for download.

Here's the way I provide downloadable files on my websites.

Upload the file to the server into the downloads folder if you use such a
folder.

On the webpage that has the file link, create the link like so:

/downloads/file.pdf

or if you would rather not use the folder:

/file.doc

Give it a try.
