Correct way to enter material cost

Me again!

We use material ressources (e.g. licenes with 1 € per unit) to track
material costs in a project plan. What's the right way to record them? I
don't wanna describe the way I do it (actually I think I do it a different
way every time) - but my problem is that I loose the cost while synchronizing
with actuals work protected. So I think I'm doing it wrong ;-)
