Correcting Text Errors cancels next Character

R

Royal Peck

I am using Word X.1.2 and have never had problems
correcting or replacing text until today.
Problem: When I try to correct or replace text as I type
in the new text Word automatically deletes the following
character. This means that I have to keep typing in all
the deleted correct characters until I come to end of a
paragraph or section. I have NEVER ENCOUNTED SUCH A PROBLEM
since beginning with Word 1.0 in 1984.

I have looked in Word preferences and checked and unchecked
various boxes - nothing corrects this.

Thanks for any help. You may reply to me at:

This is royal speaking:
I found I was actually using Word version X.1 and not 1.2.
When I installed 1.2 it corrected the situation so I don't
need an answer from anyone -
UNLESS someone would like to tell me WHY it was happening
in WORD for OS X 1.0. I had used this version since OS X
was released and had never before encountered such a
problem. Anybody know an answer?

Thanks for the help you would have liked to give

You've got stuck in OVERTYPE mode.

At the extreme bottom of the Word window, at the far right, you will see a
checkbox labelled "OVR". Turn it off.

Cheers

Hi Royal,
Hope you get this:
You should probably update all the way to 10.1.5.

See here re required updates.

But your problem sounds as though Overtype was turned on. With the Status
Bar, on the very far right, there is a gray OVR. If you doubleclick it, the
OVR goes black and then typing just types over existing text instead of
pushing it away.
