Corrupt CD / Non working product key

Hello!

I recently bought a new laptop and have gone to put my Microsoft Office 2007
Student edition onto it. however, of my set of Cds, one looks like its been
attacked by a chipmunk with a machete and as such doesn't work.

So problem one, I can't install from my discs.

I downloaded the trials version of 2007 (I've tried with all the versions of
the office suite now ) and attempted to upgrade it from that, and also from a
friends CD with my product key.

It keeps telling me my product key is not recognised, despite the fact it
worked perfectly fine on my old (now flattened) laptop.

The product key is in mint condition. Its exactly the same one I tried to
install with before.

I have no idea what to do. Ive tried fllowing through microsofts help but
because I can't get to my Cd identification thing I would would to pay the ~
£50, which I don't think is very fair for something that isn't working
through my fault!

So I'd really appreciate some help, if you guys know how I can get my CD key
sorted out. I can't afford the support let alone another copy ofthe software!

Thanks alot

You would need to uninstall any Trial Edition together with the Activation
Assistant, then reboot.
Your friends cd should work with your installation key, provided its the
exact same version you previously had installed

A product key is only good for the exact version that it was issued for. In
other words you would need MS Home and Student 2007 CD to install. You may
be able to obtain by following the link provided and using that site's

product upgrades, and replace product manuals
