Corrupt database--too big?

OK, I think I screwed up. Big time. I have not created a new Entourage
Identity in some time and now my database is 2 gigs. It's become
corrupt and I've had not luck in rebuilding it. What can I do, short
of going back in time? Is there a way to salvage the e-mails in a
corrupt database?

Thanks!

BTW, I'm running Office 2004.

If it won't rebuild, you'll just have to recover the database files
from your backups, assuming you have backups. If not, you should learn
from this experience: implement a daily backup routine and stick with
it religiously, so the next time this happens (and it will happen
again), you aren't up the creek without a paddle.

Thanks for the quick response. So it's official: there's no way to
recover from a corrupt database?

Well there is a way to recover from minimal database corruption - by
rebuilding it. But if that fails, backups are your only hope.

My database is 3.5GB's and haven't had any problems with it. I occasionally
compact it since most all of my accounts are IMAP. You know, clear out the
cobwebs... I back it up to DVD periodically. I clone my HD to a FW drive
before compacting it. Never had a problem at all with over 85,000 messages,
countless files in 30 odd projects.

As long as Entourage will open you can salvage data. There are several
options. Look over this page for tips:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/backup.html>

Once you have exported your data, you can create a new blank Identity and
import the data into that.

If you have any questions on exporting, let us know.
