Corrupt Disk

Greg

I have received a "corrupt disk" error message. I cannot run any of
my office products. I was prompted at one time to download and
install some upgrades (10.1.2, 10.1.4, 10.1.5). I don't know if that
caused it but I am not able to use anything offiuce related now.

I am running Mac os 10.2.8. It is a desktop G4. It all use to work
fine until I started networking using an airport. The problem then
was it would not allow me to have my laptop and desktop open at the
same time. That was when I was prompted to install upgrades.

What do I do?

I don't know what caused it, either - generally, installing software,
whether original apps or updates doesn't cause this. If you're getting
"corrupt disk" errors, however, you should start with running First Aid
in the Disk Utility application (Applications:Utilities folder).

You may find you need additional help from commercial utilities such as
Disk Warrior, Norton Utilities, TechTool, etc.

Does this mean you can run other apps on your Mac? Is it
only with Office you encounter these problems?

Installing these upgrades is a good thing to do. It should
not arise such difficulties. You should try repairing the
permissions (through "Disk First Aid") or even with
some "stronger" tools, as mentioned by J. E.

You may also want to fully uninstall Microsoft Office
using the "Remove Office Tool" (to be found on the CD) and
then reinstall it from scratch. Then install the upgrades
and "Repair permissions"

Does this mean you can't open them at the same time at
all, or is it just Office?

If i'ts just Office, make sure you have the license to
open the two versions at the same time (you are usually
entitled to run it on a desktop and a laptop, but not at
the same time). But the message is pretty clear and it
should not lead to "disk corruption".

If you can't open the two computers at the same time at
all, whatever apps are running, then it's probably a
settings issue with airport. Even if it's "in addition" to
your Office problem.
