Corrupt document in Word 2000

A unexpected problem suddenly showed up while I tried to print a document.
Either the program freeezes or I get the classic "Winword.exe...' message.
After reading in this NG I found
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm
Now I have tried out the different steps and at least I've saved the file as
described in a text-file (p. 6). I've think I've identified the problem to a
footnote in the middle of the text. I suppose that footnotes are in same
potential 'corruption category' as bookmarks? When I try to delete the
footnote the program freezes, while other actions that not affect
pagenumbering, etc. do not cause any damage.

Since I do have a text-backup, I'm just want to know if there is any chance
to restore all my cross references in the document?

Thanks,

Cbor
