Corrupt excel spreadsheets

I often insert excel spreadsheet into Word documents. Sometimes these
spreadsheets will become "corrupt" after I have worked within them. That is
they will not allow me to reopen them. What causes this, and how can I
ensure that it does not reoccur?

Have you tried pasting the spreadsheets as a link rather than embedding them
in your Word document?

If possible, it's best to link rather than embed, as this has less of an
overhead on your Word document.
Or do a paste special and turn it into a Word table.
Although the Office suite is designed for all the various components to work
together, if you have a Word document that is mainly spreadsheets then it
isn't really using Word or Excel the way they were designed to work.

If I were doing your document I would save the spreadsheets as Excel
workbooks and link to them in your Word document. If you use ranges you can
import just the bit you want.

It may be a bit of extra work now, but it will save a lot of frustration in
the weeks to come!
