CORRUPT FILE!!! HELP!!

I have a word document with alot of images that I need. And I don't
know what I did...must of done something...maybe one of the images is
corrupt but now the file won't even OPEN! It does the same thing on
any computer:'

1. microsoft office opens
2. tries to load the file
3. takes FOREVER
4. Freezes
5. Microsoft word crashes.

what should I do???

is there any software?

I need someones help! I NEED that file!!! (it's a big file ): )

Ok, there are several options:
Option 1
Do you have set in word preferences to create a backup copy? If so the
copy should be in the same folder as the original file, then just use
the backup. The file will be denoted as a Backup of....


option 2
I'm currently on PC which gives me more option, so I will guess a bit.
Can you do this:
1. Start Microsoft Word
2. Go to File menu
3. Select Open and open dialogue box appears
4. Select the file
5. Select Recover Text from any file (*.*) as your Files of type as
below from the file type list.

Option 3
search google for some SW for file recovery. The keywords could be:
Word File Recovery Tool
But first BACKUP - copy somewhere the corrupted word file, prior you
process it through the recovery tool

Option 4
Can you open your file in textEdit? to get the text?

Option 5
Can you send me the file? I do not promise anything... But please I
need at least 2 days to see your file.

Hi L.C.

While you are looking at his file, try a different version of Word. Word
2000 will have a better chance of getting that file open than Word 2004.

This will turn out to be a broken graphic, possibly caused by dragging
graphics around with track changes turned on

i put it in a Windows computer and it fixed the bloody file! thanks!
mac and windows need to really kiss and make up!

If you like, we'll send you a selection of files that Mac Word can open that
PC Word can't

Basically, in order of "ruggedness" with damaged files, the order is:

Word 2000
Word 2007
Word 2004
Word 2003
Word X
Word 97
Word 2002

In descending order of their ability to open "most" damaged files. Word
2000 is the most rugged, but it hangs on so long when it is struggling that
it often crashes itself.

Word 2003 contains a patch to fix that problem, but now it gives up too
early. You will often get a document open in 2004 that 2003 can't handle.

Word 2002 is the worst of the bunch by a long shot. It was the product of
"The Powers That Be" telling the project team they had to ship on time,
ready or not. It *wasn't* ready. It was a frightening mess...

Which is why we should be philosophical about the delay to Word 2008. We
can wish it didn't happen, but I am sure we would all rather have a solid
product when it IS ready than repeat the 2002 experience

Hi John,
TX for hint. I got used to use word 2003 as that was the only one I
could open my buggy 2002 documents with. I got used to always make a
copy - preferably rtf and ducuments I spend most time with I do always
print out that's the most save backup (OK except for fire and
floods .

Sarah:
Then I would recommend you to quickly backup your document!!! Copy all
your document EXCEPT the last paragraph mark to a new document. After
the last paragraph mark is when all the formating is store, and it's
one of the thing causing the document corruption. Also check in your
preferences Always make a backup copy. This will save you a lot of
time and stress in the future.
