Thanks in advance,
I seeing the W for Word and the PID screen when I try to access Word from my
Desktop. So far, I've uninstalled Works Suite 2005 looked in My computer -
add And/Remove programs the file Microsoft office 97, Pro edition was still
there (there was a "key" sysbol at the left of the title. I tried to remove
it and received the error message above. I inserted the disk and went back
into Add/Remove Programs and tried to remove the file again, after inserting
the disk the "key " replaced with a "W" it still wouldn'r remove. It said the
file was corrupt. I'm unable to access any of my word documents. Any
Suggestions ?

Hi I'm Back, I'm still have the same trouble, I've bought a spyware pkg
thought it would help but it did'nt. I tried so many different things, I did
do the winword.exe /a and the word did come up so, I think that is where the
problem lies. However, I'm the brightest and couldn't find where winword2k.
dot is located in the Symatic site. Can you help me with this? I did
however find the file Normal.dot and renamed it instead of deleting it for
now.
Ran a full system scan in safe mode, found 2 Trojans. I just need help
finding where winword2k.dot is I could only find info on winword2. Thanks
again.

I've never heard of winword2k.dot. Why are you trying to find it?

If you type winword /a in the run command dialog, Word should start. Note
that there is a space following winword but NOT between the / and a. Try it
again. If Word doesn't start, then your installation is badly damaged. Try
reinstalling it again.

Hi Terry,
Thanks again
In their article referenced by word that you suggested, the winwowrd.exe /a
works and it starts up but I can't access anything I thought it was a test to
see if it opens and it does, but it doesn't fix it. If you go down from there
to the second : i) & ii) on #4 is the file winword2k.dot was mentioned..I'm
sure glad I didn't delete Normal.dot and only renamed it. I apologize but I
am not a computer literate and I'm really afraid If it's not completely laid
out I could do some real damage. I do think it has to do with the startup
file but I don't know how to fix it. Am I suppose to do something with the
Normal.dot file? I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times this doesn't
seem to help the problem.

Well opening in Safe Mode opens Word in its default install mode bypassing
all customizations including templates, macros, add-ins, printer driver or
any other influences outside Word.

As the article recommends, rename normal.dot as it is not uncommon for it to
corrupt: Word will create a new one automatically when it next starts up. By
renaming it to something like normal.bad, enables you to use the Organizer
to copy across any custom features that you have saved in your old
normal.dot.

But if renaming normal.dot doesn't work, follow the FAQ trying the other
diagnostic suggestion.
