Corrupt file - please help

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

PPT 2004 crashed while working with a file. Now it recognizes the file as corrupt, in use, or of a type not recognized by ppt. I've not been able to open it from microsoft user data file, and it does not exist as an autosaved file. Can it be restored?
