Corrupt Files in Word 2003

For around 4 weeks now the files I create in Word are becoming corrupt. For
instance on two occassions the content has been replaced by little squares,
and the pages increase from around 7 to 40. On other occasions an error
message appears saying that the file is corrupt, I then get the option to use
file converter, this has worked once to recover the document without any
formatting and diagrams etc. The other instance of my file becoming corrupt
left the file completely blank.

I think the documents that are becoming corrupt are the ones I create on my
home pc, or have on usb then work on on my home pc. Any ideas? I'm in my
final year at uni and it's driving me crazy

Yes. NEVER save a document directly to any type of removable media. Always
save to the local HDD and then COPY to the REM media. It is a surefire way
to corrupt a document (as experienced).

And don't open the file directly from the USB drive, either. Copy to the HD
first.
