I just upgraded from Office 98 for Mac to Office v.X. Hooray, now I can
ditch OS 9 and do all my work in OS X, right? Wrong.
First thing I did was open a PPT file that my boss needs me to edit.
Among other things, it contains a flowchart diagram. I don't know how
he created it, but he uses the PC version of MS Office.
Office v.X put a big red "X" in place of the diagram and would not even
let me save my changes to the slideshow, saying "the associated
multimedia file is invalid or corrupt."
I fired up Classic, opened the original file in Office 98. After
"Converting: Metafile" (which I assume was the translation of the
diagram to a Mac format), I was able to view the graphics and save to a
new file.
Office v.X can now display the diagram, but it still refuses to save it
(???), citing the same error.
Somehow, I thought the newer version of Office would be MORE
compatible with PC's, but in my case it appear to be less compatible.
Very disappointing.
