Corrupt .PST File

D

David McPhedran

Hi,

I have a user on my network who did a Windows XP Pro
update this morning and then all of a sudden was not able
to delete emails in Outlook XP (2002) SP2. I later
determined that this is a corrupt file (the file is
1,474,000 kb in size) and ran chkdsk at start-up and then
ran scanpst.exe. The scanpst utility was not (and still
not) able to access the file in question. I did rename
it and created a new Outlook.pst file and Outlook now
runs smoothly. However, as you can probably imagine, I
am still missing all of his previous data. An import was
unsuccessful as well.

Any other ideas on how I can salvage this piece of data?

Thanks,
DM

Dave:

Unfortunately, the data is probably hosed. I'd stop by www.sliptick.com,
which is Sue Mosher's web (an Outlook MVP) and see if she's got any tools
there that might recover all or part of the file.

Don't try to import the file. Use File->Open->Outlook Data file. Then drag
and drop information into the new .pst.
