Here is the background. We have law clerks who work on pretty lengthy
documents, that usually involve a few months worth of research. The
documents are stored on dept. network drives, and quite often when this
particular clerk tries opening a document that only he worked on previously,
he gets the Document name or path error mesage.
Prevously, I had looked up KB 832890, which suggested upgrading Word to at
least SP2 ( He was only at 1). His PC has been updated with all necessary
Windows upgrades and XP now has SP3 as well. All the law clerks have been
updated as well.
Additionally, I modified the registy to add the new DWord RepairSmartTags.
This is the location of the new Registry Key :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common
Once finished, I showed the law clerk how to use Open and Repair
functionality.
No problems, however the same error message appeared again today, and now
the file had to be renamed otherwise the law clerk could not open the file.
What could I be missing here? Would turning off smart tags resolve this
issue or is there something else I should look into?
Thanks in advance
