Corrupt Toolbar Customisation File (XLB)

I seem to have continous problems opening EXCEL (Office XP). Only when I delete the excel10.xlb file do my problems go away tempoorarily. What is causing this file to become corrupt? Deleting the .xlb file is only a bandaid to this problem.
