corrupt word documents

William Cipriani

All of my word documents are blank. There are documents that I created
earlier this year and have faithfully opened everyday. Now when I open the
tital still appears but the page is blank. At the bottom the correct amount
of pages is listed as well as the correct amount of characters yet
blank...even if I highlght or change the font color. Any idea please feel
free to email me at (e-mail address removed).

It suggests that either the 'Hidden' attribute or 'White' colour attribute
has been applied to the Font style.

Terry I checked the hidden attribute (right click on file properties) and
hidden is NOT checked. I checked the font and it is set to black as the
default. The weird thing is in some of the folders I have set up under the
file type it lists TMP file. Is there a way that MS Word 2003 is infected? I
know that this may be against the rules but is it possible that I can send
you one of my attachments and see if you can see what I am seeing?

Also Terry when I open and try to create a brand new MS Word 2003 document I
am unable to click anywhere to start typing. It will not let me type. Like
maybe stuck in view only mode???

Terry how do you use the "word Options Diagnostics that you posted on 9/8/09?

I was about to suggest that the new symptoms sound like a corrupt Data Key.

That may be a symptom of a Word Data Key corruption - usually because Word
has been running when updates are installed.

Symptoms of Data Key corruption may include:

• The mouse does not work when you use Word.
• You cannot open a Word document from the Search window in Windows
Vista.
• You cannot open a Word document from Windows Desktop Search.
• Word crashes when you try to start or exit Word.
• Word crashes when you open the Open dialog box.
• Word crashes when you save a document.
• Word crashes when you close a document.

See MSKB 940791 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940791 for the repair tool.

You just go to the MSKB site by clicking on the URL and press the big FIX
button.

Terry,

I am having the same issue with word in 2003. The fixit program is for 2007
only. Can you give me help directions on what to look for in 2003?

Thanks.

Lenny

Use the procedure in the same article, under "Let me fix it myself", but
substitute 11.0 in place of 12.0 in the name of the registry key. That is,
you're to delete the key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Data
