Corrupted table - Word 2007

I'm using Word 2007, and making changes and review comments on a modest
document (around eight pages). The document is mostly comprised of a single
table with multiple rows. Nothing fancy.

I have Track Changes on, as we're passing the doc back and forth with updates.

Sometimes, I experience a problem that occurs while I am entering a review
comment. Without me making any changes directly to the table or the text (it
just happens--poof!--while I'm in the middle of entering a comment), some of
the text in the table appears to stop wrapping. It can be in the cell where
I'm adding the comment, or can be in some other cell.

Here's a screenshot showing what the problem looks like:

And, it goes deeper than just acting like "wrap text" is turned off for the
cell. If I'm able to save the file, and then re-open it, the table has become
garbled. Some of the text is entirely outside of a table, and some is now in
a new table in a new cell whose width bears no apparent relation to the
original table's column widths. Here's a screenshot after re-opening:

I'm up to date on all service packs and Windows (XP Pro) and Office updates.

Needless to say (but here goes), this is a hugely annoying problem and a
real time-waster. I would very much appreciate it if anyone has any thoughts
or suggestions.

As a test, I saved an earlier version (pre corruption) as a .doc file and
have been editing it in compatibility mode for some time. Seems to be working
with none of the above issues, but this is a less than optimal workaround.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Here's an update -- I noticed that when the problem occurs, if I click on the
"misbehaving" text (e.g., the line beginning with "Along with the keyed" in
my first screenshot), Word thinks the cursor is not in a table. The "Table
Tools" menus (Design and Layout) disappear. Yet, on the screen and in print
preview, it still shows as a table until I save and re-open.

Not sure if that helps at all, but seems significant.
