corrupted text?

J

Jen

Please help:

I have had this issue on my main computer and now it is happening on my
laptop. It has happened while using a flash drive (and I'm not sure but may
have happened while saving to the hard drive). Either way this shouldn't be
happening.

I am working in a word document and if I close it and reopen it the entire
page converted to the letter "y". All of my information is gone. It happens
at random (at least so I think).

I could be working on something, go to close it, get a "corrupted text"
message, and then when I open it, it is all "y".

I have also closed documents. Reopen them and they are fine. Then close
and open them again at a later time and they are converted to y's.

Example:
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Plagiarising Jay's answer to another user just above your post...

The critical thing is that you must not save from Word directly to flash (or
other removable) drives or try to open Word documents directly from
removable drives. Save the document to the hard drive, and then _copy_ it to
the flash drive. At the other end, copy it from the flash to the hard drive
before opening it there.

At this point the document is probably trashed, but try copying it to the
hard drive anyway -- you might be lucky.

ok, so the problem is with using the flash drive. They are not meant to
"work in" but meant to "save" in?

I also copied info and put it into Word and then saved it to my flash drive.
Those were the documents that were corrupt. Also, I was working on a
document saved to the flash drive and this also became corrupt.

Thanks for the info.

Actually you shouldn't even save directly to a flash drive; save to the HD
and then copy or send to the flash drive.
