So somehow my user info got corrupted and my Outlook stopped downloading
messages.
To solve this here is what I had to do:
Create a new account.
Delete old account.
Close Outlook.
Find and delete the Outlook.pst
Start Outlook.
Create a new .pst when Outlook errors.
Restart Outlook.
Redownload every single email I've ever gotten. (still in this process, 2000
messages)
Now everything works again.
There has to be an easier way.
I tried loading a backup. That was fast, easy, but resulted in the same
no-download of new messages that I had before.
When I created the new account and connected to my email server I got
duplicates of every email I already had.
When I created a new Folder to download messages to, and attached it to my
account, I still got duplicates. There didn't seem to be a way to get a
fresh, clean inbox without completely deleting everything I had.
Now, I've lost all my folders and rules and I have 2000 emails to
re-organize. I've also lost tons of old emails that were stored someplace in
my .pst but I had to delete that.
Tried to reload a backup again, and same problem again, no downloading of
new messages.
So, to prevent this from happening again, is there a better way to prevent
all this hassle? My Outlook stopped working all on its own, and this is not
the first time I've had to reset/delete/make new user account.
Why is outlook so susceptable to corrutped user info? This sounds like it
should be a straight forward and easy to maintain thing.
So, two questions I guess:
#1 A better way to reset accounts without having to go through all the
rebuild stuff
#2 A way to prevent this from happening again...
Thanks.
