CORRUPTED WORD DOCS - transfer to Word07 from word97 HELP!

A

APB

I've just updated to Vista and Office2007. Misery. All my word documents were
transferred to the new computer. SEVERAL word docs are now corrupt and can't
be opened, even using the "open and repair" option. The affected documents
are mostly lengthy collections of notes and cut&paste copy from websites. No
issues EVER with previous version of Word.

The ONLY way to get data is by opening the document with "recover text only"
but it makes a mockery of the document I initially created.
Ideas or solutions, please?

how have the files been transferred to the new computer? Are you
positive that you have the same files as before? A lot can go wrong
when, say, burning a CD ...

It's certainly not a common bug that Word 2007 cannot open Files written
as *.doc in _Word 97_. You are positive that the files in question
aren't even older?

If you have the original computer still at hand, try opening such a file
there (in Word 97). If this works, transfer it separately to the new PC
(by way of E-Mail as Attachment, or a USB memory stick, or ...). If this
does not work, then saving them in Word 97 into a different format (RTF)
would be my next step.
