What do you mean by spreading the cost over the project duration? Do you
mean the task itself extends from project start until end or do you mean
that the duration of the task's work is actually something shorter but
you're making some sort of periodic payments for it that extend over the
course of the project?

A good example: I have XX amount of dollar to use on a task w/sub-task. How
do I spread the cost and how do I view it?

Hello Anya Blue,

View the cost table and enter the amount against the subtask in the
fixed cost field. By default the cost will be spread on a pro-rated
basis across the task duration. You can view the cost on a
timephased basis in the Task Usage view. Add the cost field to the
right side through Format > Detail Styles.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Adding to Julie's response ... if you wish you can also set that you want
the entire cost to hit your budget the moment the task starts or you can
have it hit when the task ends, as well as evenly distributed over the
duration of the task. When you choose the default pro-rated option, Project
takes care of the distribution
