cost tracking

Hi All

Project server newbie looking for some advice.

We have an external system providing project and task cost
information. We are looking into loading this into project
server via PDS with one of the goals to be to provide earned
value/performance reporting possibly via Portfolio Analyzer.

This info would be dates and cost stuff no resources, hours etc
and a forecast cost field, just the following kind of thing

project baseline cost, start, finish
project actual cost, start, finish
project forecast cost (projected cost of task)
project % complete

task baseline cost, start, finish
task actual cost, start, finish
task forecast cost (projected cost of task)
task % complete

Updating just cost information appears to be a bit of a minefield
without resources so was considering using some custom fields but
am I wondering that if I take that step can I timephase the custom
fields to get the earned value reporting ?

If I cannot use the timephase approach then I was thinking of
customising the cube building to put in forecast costs prior to
Portolio Analyzer for the earned value. Is this the thinking of a madman ?

Any advice on how to handle this forecast cost ? other than discard it
quietly ;-)

thanks
Allan

Am I misunderstanding you? Are trying to put this data IN Project Server, or
extract it?

If it's the former, it doesn't make sense. That's what Project Server is
for.

I am trying to put projects in.

The projects are updated in a seperate custom system of seperate
entity. We would retrieve the information to show the financial guys
the tracking of the projects, earned value etc.

These are a subset of the projects that would be managed in Project
Server.
