Costing issues

The problem i have is hard to explain but i will still give it a shot:

When a project Manager creates a project he chooses the Cost Center field
from the project information box, which i defined myself. At the end of the
month the accounts office generates a cube where they can find the cost of
the project.
SO in that case the IT Department gets paid proportional to how much work
they do on a project. This works fine with me.

But now the problem arises: What if a project has multiple Cost Centers, the
requiement is such that 30% of the total cost goes to "x" cost center, 50% to
"y" Cost center and the remaining 20% to "z" cost center.

Do you guys think a Process like this one is possible to achieve with out
custom development?

I need immediate help on this.

Thnx in advance.

Off the top of my head, I believe you cannot achieve this without custom
development. Hope this helps.

Hi Seemer,

I would suggest you try this in another way. There are a number of ways to
do this, so consider this idea and there are probably a number of ways you
can take this approach and make adjustments based on your needs.

Instead of using a custom field, use a "material"-based resource that
represents cost (call it "Cost Center" or something like that). Then,
create a task that represents allocations for each cost center and add your
new "Cost Center" resource to each.

Next, add a "Cost" for each of those resources (best to do this in the GANTT
view and using Windows->Split->Right click and choose 'Resource Cost').

Finally, using an outline code which contains a list of the cost centers,
assign it to each resource in an assignment view.

By assigning the resource an outline code at the assignment level, it will
automatically be added to the OLAP cube. You should now be able to see
"Cost Center" costs, with the ability to break out those costs by each cost
center.
