Well, I find it a little strange that even in Jim Buyen's Microsoft FrontPage
version 2002 INSIDE OUT in the first paragraph on page 896 (Part 10, Using
Forms and Databases) he talks about the FORMS PROPERTY feature permitting you
to do BOTH saving it to a database AND sending it by email. And then his
subsequent discussion of the FORMS PROPERTY features go onto describing how
to do BOTH.
I presume FP 2003 is an improvement on the Version Buyen's discusses.
Something is very strange here. Consider the following:
On the FORMS PROPERTIES Page I type in the
SEND TO section, I type in the name of the .mdb
file as well as the EMAIL Address. I also type in a
FORM NAME under FORM PROPERTIES.
I click on options and in the SAVING RESULTS box
I type in the same .mdb file as the FILE NAME and
choose HTML. The INCLUDE FIELD NAMES and
The LATEST RESULTS AT END boxes are checked.
I do not type anything in the OPTIONAL SECOND FILE
although the same boxes are checked by default.
Next I go to the EMAIL RESULTS tab and type in the
email address in the E-MAIL ADDRESS TO RECEIVE
RESULTS tab and choose FORMATTED TEXT as the
EMAIL FORMAT. I check the INCLUDE FIELD NAMES
box.
Under EMAIL MESSAGE HEADER I leave the SUBJECT
LINE blank as well as the FORM FIELD NAME check box
to its right. I also leave the REPLY-TO-LINE text box
blank although the FORM FIELD NAME check box to
the right of it appears to be checked by default.
Next I click on the CONFIRMATION PAGE tab and enter
the URL OF THE CONFIRMATION PAGE which in this
instance I assume is simply the name of the .htm confirmation
page which I created with the wizard/template. However, I
do not put in any URL OF VALIDATION FAILURE PAGE as
I am uncertain about it.
Finally I click on the SAVED FIELDS tab and save the fields,
Select date and time format and check all the boxes at the
Bottom – remote computer name, user name and browser type.
THE PROBLEM:
When I fill out the form at the website and click SUBMIT. The
screen simply flashes and returns to the form.
What’s freakin me out is that when I select the SEND TO
DATABASE option rather than the SEND TO option, on the
FORM PROPERTIES page, the standard confirmation form
will appear and the date will be sent to the .mdb file created
for the SEND TO DATABASE feature.
Any ideas?
Furthermore, I get this message when I try to save the FORM PROPERTY box on
the local server.
The form cannot be configured to send results via email.
The website may be located at a disk based location or on a
Server that has not been configured to send email. Contact
your system administrator etc. I am then asked if I want to
remove the email recipient to which I respond NO.
The reason is that when I save the same form on the server
side, I don’t get the message which leads me to conclude
that the message is coming up only because I am attempting
to save it on the hard drive side.
