Could not create new Query

I have Office 2000 on Windows 2000.

I am unable to create Query as it does not show me fields of the table. It
says could not open table.

I tried creating new database from access without any protection and created
simple table with 2 fields. and could not create query using that.

Now i have another database which is quiet old and arround 3-4 years old. I
can create query from that database.

So conclusion is from Old database files i can create query from excel while
it has some problem accessing information from new database.

Please guide me to solve this problem as it is very important for me.
