"Could not find a web server"

"Could not find a web server at xx.xx.xx.xx on port 80. Please check
to make sure that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings
are set correctly. If you are sure everything is set correctly, the
web server may be temporarily out of service."

I get this error with FP 2000. It has worked for a couple of years, on
this computer, ISP, etc. No problems. Web host can log in with FP to
my site.

I did install some MS patches, including ones on MS Office, but these
are not removable (according to the MS web site). I did not notice the
problem until several days later - so I am not *SURE* it is related to
the MS Office patches. But, the problem was not there until after the
patches were installed. It is MS Office 2000 Premium.

The machine is running Win2K Pro, with SR 3, connection is through a
Linksys and cable modem. Port 80 is definately open, and my LinkSys
logs show no outgoing traffic on port 80 while FP is trying.
Everything else seems to work fine. FP will also not ftp to the site -
no access it says. I say it doesn't try.

I can not install SR4 without losing my internet connection. I can
ping, but nothign will resolve. Uninstalling SR 4 returns everything.

Any and all ideas appreciated!!

Are you by any chance running an instant messaging program??

If so, shut it down. Yahoo for one uses port 80 for it's P2P
file sharing feature.
