could not lock file

i am designing a db for use and it uses info from a main db on the network.
the db on the network is in '97 and i have 2003 on my computer. i cannot
open the network file at all--could not like file. if i make a copy of the
db, i can open it (even though it is in the same file on the network.) i
have all the permissions to the folder but i still cannot open it. if anyone
could help i would greatly appreciate it.

Are you quite certain you have sufficient permissions on the folder
containing the MDB file? You need to be able to create and delete files
in this folder as well as read and modify them.
