As it currently is (IMHO), OneNote is a very good note taking tool, and
frustratingly close to being a very useful replacement (or upgrade) from a
paper 'organizer'/daily notes/planner. OneNote provides the perfect UI
framework for daily notes & planning (sections & pages), and many of the rich
text handling features needed.
Unfortunately, as far as I can tell so far, it looks like OneNote cannot
access some of the info in Outlook (appointments, events & tasks in
particular), and of course Outlook lacks the note & rich text handling
capabilities present in OneNote. Too bad they can’t work together better.
(Current and available (MS and third party templates) for daily notes and
‘day planning', while somewhat useful, are a rather feeble attempt to provide
daily notes & planning capabilities, and are NOT sufficient. . )
For example, the following capabilities and integration with Outlook would
be very useful:
1) The ability to include a (live) calendar object in a page (defaulting to
monthly view, with navigation arrows). Currently have to keep switching back
to/from Outlook to navigate the calendar and get info.
2) The ability to include Outlook daily (and other?) views in a page in a
similar way that Word, Excel, PP, and data from other apps can be included in
OneNote pages. (_Ideally_ with live two-way data exchange between the OneNote
page and Outlook though)
3) The ability to _either_ a) navigate among dates within a single page
view, or b) auto generate a section containing a month's worth of daily
pages, _with_ the page title (as reflected in the page tab) set to the day &
date, and using the user defined default template/stationary.
4) The ability to create - and ideally maintain a link to - Outlook tasks
from within checklists in a OneNote page would be _really_ useful also.
OK, I know I'm dreaming -) - just a few thoughts, suggestions ...
