This question actually is related to the game of Call of Duty 2, but since it
is caused by Office--Office 2007 Professional Plus Trial Edition, to be
exact, I will ask this question here.
Every time I put in the first CD of CoD 2 and attempted to play the game in
single player mode, I am greeted with this message:
Executable ‘F:\setup\rsrc\cod2.exe’ had the following unrecoverable error:
Couldn’t find library MSVCR80.dll (required by
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\OFFICE12\MSOXMLMF.DLL)
Please make sure that it is installed
But the MSVCR80.dll IS installed or present in my system--XP, Home, SP2!
The file's full path is as follows: C:\MSOCache\All
Users\{90120000-0115-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
I did a check on line and find that this particular .dll is begotten from
either Windows Update or Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 or 3.0. I indeed had
Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 and 3.0 installed on my PC, but they have since
been removed! And yet the problem or error still persists!
Also, before I had Office 2007 Professional Plus installed on my machine, I
had Office 2003 Student and Teacher's Edition. When I put in the first CD of
CoD 2 and attempted to play the game in singled player mode then, I did not
get this error message! The above error message occurred AFTER I had
installed Office 2007 Professional Plus Trial Edition on my machine! So
it--the error--must have something to do with the latest version of Office, I
guess!
I did a check on CoD 2's website and support forum with the keyword of
"MSVCR80.dll" as well, but did not find any info! Actually, I was going to
ask this very question there, but they require me to create an account to do
so. I hate creating accounts because of the hassle of user names and
passwords. I moved here to ask this question becuase firstly I already have
an account here and secondly this question is related to or maybe even caused
by Office 2007.
Don't know if anybody else here has also run into this problem while playing
CoD 2 when putting in the first CD of CoD 2?
Note: I can still play the game in single player mode, but to do so, I have
to first go into the multiplayer mode and from there choose the single player
option. It is kind of inconvenient. But most importantly, I want to find
out why I am getting this error message when I put in the first CD of CoD 2
and attempted to play the game!
Any info is appreciated!
