a better explanation of my problem follows:
the error message is
"Couldn't use "C:\WINNT\Sysytem32\system.mdw", file
already in use

we need to be able to open Access more than once on the
server

Probably users don't have modify permissions on that folder. They need the
create permission to create the associated ldb file. Without it, the
system.mdw is getting opened exclusively.

Can you put the mdw in another folder - maybe with the mdb?
