count by month

Hello i have a query which has the following

placement id date placed
1 01/01/2006
2 02/01/2006
I have the format sett to mmmm-yy so it reads january 06 not 01/01/2006

when i try to count how many entries are for january i get the following
results
month count
january 1
january 1

instead of
january 2

any ideas please

In the Field row of your query, enter:
Format([date placed], "yyyymm")

That gives you a 6-digit number (4 x year + 2 x month), which will sort
correctly.

Alternatively, use 2 fields (i.e. 2 columns of the Field row):
TheYear: Year([date placed])
and
TheMonth: Month([date placed])
