count of fieldnames

thank you in advancer for anyone who manages to help me with this query. my
database is fynctionally better for the help i have received here

as i have mentioned before i have a events database, i would like to do a
report that counts the professions within a text field for a particular
course and displays them within a report

the field is called [profession] from the table [Attendees]

an example for how i would like the report to looks is: -


Course Title

Profession

OT 2
Physio 4
Nurse 6
Doctor 8

i can set up areport to get the data i need and can format the report, i
just do not know what i need to put in the report to get it to count the
professions and display the result.

i hope someone understands this convoluted message

1. Create a new query into this table.

2. Depress the Total button on the toolbar (upper sigma icon.)
Access adds a Total row to the design grid.

3. Drag the Profession field into the grid.
Accept Group By in the Total row under this field.

4. Drag the primary key field into the grid.
In the Total row under this field, choose Count.

5. Save the query, and create a report based on it.

groups are invaluable considering my IT department will not support Access
