Count the charcaters - text field

How do set a rule a for a text field in Infopath. say I set the # of
characters to 200, then I want to display a meassge when the user is at 190
character, say some suitable mesaage, then click ok and change the text in
the field.

I may be misunderstanding your intent here but if, as a user, I had
typed in 190 characters and you, the form creator, decided to
scrub/change my input I would be a very unhappy user.

Can you explain your use case here?
