countdown clock as slide

can I set up a countdown clock that will update automatically on a slide
that is part of a presentation. That is the clock is working seperately from
the slideshow timings.

That is almost what I want, thanks. I really want to use system time and
countdown days, hours, minutes and seconds to an event, ie Christmas. but I
want the slide show to continue seperately and every time the 'clock slide'
appears, the timer is still working off system time. Is this possible?
