Counters

To get the java script, do a google search for, web counters. After spending
many days finding which one you like, you then put it on your website by
doing Insert, HTML code fragment.

Food for thought: Counters are notoriously wrong and a sure sign of an
amateur web designer.

Hey JoAnn, I use a counter on my web site... It's an ego thing. I will admit I
have to change my vendor now and then, seems they come and go.

I also use a counter. My reason is I put proprietary documents in a logon,
password protected folder and I want to get an idea how many lodge members
are making use of the files.

I'm just saying there's other ways to do that. Counters also count the
number of times that you visit the site as well as others. I know that I hit
my site more often than anyone else. I use a different service (free) that
tells me more than just how many people. There's no counter on the page and
it excludes me. ;-)

Instead of labeling people as amateur for using a counter, and then excusing
the insult by saying there is a better way, why don't you tell them the
better way in the first place? Don't you think that would be a bit more
constructive?

I didn't start the idea that if you use a counter then you're an amateur. I
used to use on too until I learned that that's a dead giveaway of a
beginner.

What people need to do is figure out *why* they want a counter and then
google for more information on how to get that information. Knowing that x
number of people hit your site really tells you nothing, especially if
you're checking it often to see how many people have been there.

Most folks that use Publisher for web pages are amateurs. Professional web
designers haven’t a clue about Publisher. I believe we all know what is
professional and what is not professional when we visit a site. Personally, I
could care less if a counter is present or happy faces or animated gifs. (Sound
is my one gripe). It is a relief to get away from ads on so call professional
sites. I have visited many homemade web sites that have very valuable
information that also have horrendous graphics and enormous text. Who cares!

I can handle sound, even tho I don't like it. It's those blasted
cursor-following sparkly things I despise. Stars or flowers or whatevers
that trail after my cursor as I move it about the website. Even after you
stop the mouse, they spin or swirl or something. Gack!
