Using 2007.
By default in one week, resource have 40 hrs work.
i.e. Resource A work for 50 hrs in first week.
What i want to ask...can project profesional automatically count working
hours into work and overtime work?
so...40 hrs is regular work and 10 hrs is overtimework.

thanks

Work is loaded into the work column
Overtime Work is loading into the Overtime Work column

When a task is first created, the Overtime Work field shows "0 hrs." When
you enter scheduled overtime work in the sheet portion of the Task Usage or
Resource Usage view for the assignment, Project rolls up these overtime work
hours and enters the total overtime work for the task into the OT Work field.

Add the Overtime Work field to a task sheet to review or filter for
scheduled overtime on a task.

Example The "Write proposal" task has a five-day duration with 40 hours of
work assigned to Chris alone. You want to shorten the duration, but there are
no other resources to assign to the task. You add eight hours of overtime
work to the assignment. There are still 40 hours of work, but the duration is
now four days, with eight hours of overtime work spread across the task.

Hi Reza,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Not automatically as it is up to you to define the amount of overtime. From
the Gantt Chart view, Window/Split, select the task in question and then
right click on the lower pane and select Resource Work. Enter 10 hours in
the Ovt.Work column.

If you're using a server, try posting on the microsoft.public.project.server
newsgroup (forum). Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project Newsgroups. FAQs,
companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at this

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Jim---
like u said, if i want to enter values for overtime work, i can go to task
usage view or resource usage view...but i can't do that? i can't enter values
in overtime work in task usage/resource usage view, i just can enter values
in actual overtime work?
but i can enter values overtime work like mike said in resource work.

and in your example sentence, why duration will change after we enter
overtime work. in that case "duration = work + overtime work"

thanks for your great explanation, its really helpful for me.
