Couple of Questions

Can I get InfoPath2007 without buying the who Office System? I have
InfoPath2003 and I just recently purchased Small Business 2007 and I am
looking to uprade to InfoPath2007.

Second Question:
If I design a form to be shared by my emplyees do they all have to have
InfoPath loaded on their computers? Can I place a form on my local server?
Beth Melton has helped me tremendously by I didn't quite understand her last
post. My original question is pasted below from another forum.



I am a school principal and need a form that teachers can fill out
disciplinary information about a child and email/send to me and I can add
data about student consequeces and send it back to teacher and a copy to a
student file. What type of application would I use to create such a form?
InfoPath, Word, Adobe Acrobat? Once I know what application to use I will be
able to design a pretty simple form to use.
One note...eventually, but not now, I would like to be able to track the
student disciplinary data in a database.

I have the same question. I manage a large national project and am currently
receiving data from a spreadsheet from 35 different sources on a quarterly
basis. I'd like to have each of these 35 agencies complete the data on this
system and then I can download the data. My questions are this:

1. is this possible with this system?
2. do these agencies have to have access to the 2007 software to access this
feature?
3. If no, do they access this page through a website?

These are basic questions and if you could refer me to the appropriate place
to get additional information I would really appreciate it.

Unless you have Microsoft Office SharePoint Server(MOSS) or WSS v3 & Forms
Server, which will allow you to host an InfoPath form within a Web Browser
then they will have to have InfoPath loaded on their own PC's. MOSS also
gives you the added benefits of an easy to use/customise intranet, document
management, workflows etc & with the academic pricing you can get I'd
recommend looking at it.

Hi Andy,
I am somewhat confused, maybe by terminology. What is WSS v3 (Windows
Sharepoint Server version 3?), and then what is Forms Server? Is this an
application I need my Provider to load onto my Windows SharePoint Server?

Much appreciate the help.. I am brand new to SharePoint and InforPath..

I am also a bit confused by all the server teminology. I work for a large
school district and I do not think they are going to reconfigure the network
for the wishes on ONE principal. Can the form be placed on the server our
district uses or does it have to be the WSS that you refer to? Who knows
maybe that is the server we use, but I do not think so.

WSS v3 = Windows Sharepoint Services version 3

MOSS 2007 comes with Forms Server built in but it's also available as a
seperate standalone product.

I suggest you talk to the IT dept of the school district & see if they've
got a MOSS or Form Server setup that you can use. If they don't send them
the links I've provided & tell them to talk to they're Microsoft Rep as the
price for academic institutes is quite reasonable. I'm currently doing a
lot of work for a local school around MOSS with electronic forms &
workflows. They're really happy with the result.

Thanks I now understand why my options if I want my employees to leverage
InfoPath and SharePoint.
Option 1. Each user have Info path installed.
Option 2. Have my service provider who currently provides Share Point
service to upgrade to SharePoint 2007 which includes Form Server (which is
new to SharePoint 2007). Or move to a provider who does.
Option 3. Build my own share Point server 2007 and host it. (not likely)
