Couple Suggestions For Word

T

The Doctor

I have recently acquired the Office 12 Beta and am very pleased with the
changes. However, I would like to offer some suggestions. Firstly, a tabbed
interface for Word, like the Visual Studio has, for multiple documents would
make the navagation between different documents easier without cluttering the
taskbar with multiple instances of Word. Also, as it stands, the research
pane cannot be set to be shown by default, which is something I usually like
to have always at the side. It would also enhance the interface if this could
be set to hide like the panes like in Visual Studio.

For most manuscrips, essays, and research papers, a "First Line Indent" is
necessary. I think that a button or text box allowing the first line indent
to be changed should be incorporated into the paragraph area of the ribbon,
along with a button or drop down box to change the line spacing. A style like
this that shows up in the ribbon where Normal, No Spacing, etc. styles are
would be useful since this is the required format for many types of documents.

All in all, however, the new version of Office is a great improvement over
its predecessors. The interface is much more intuitive, and the new file
format is good and compact, and gets bonus points for being an open standard.

directly to the Office beta team.
