Cover Page

I want to be able to create my own Cover Page and save it so that it appears in the Gallery. Or at the very least drastically edit a Cover Page already available and save that so that my edited Cover Page is re-useable. Can this be done and if so, how?

Hi Charlie,

Assuming that you're in Office 2004 or 2008 (PLEASE always state your Office
and OS version numbers when posting!) ...

If you create your own Cover Page by scratch, then when you save it, go to
Save As and change the Format drop down to Word Template. Word will then
save the page as a custom template to the Project Gallery in the folder
called My Templates. You can then access the Project Gallery (from the File
menu) any time you want to in order to create a new doc based on your
template.

If you create a Cover Page from one of the built-in templates, you can do
the same thing. You cannot, however, add your custom template to the
Elements Gallery (only applies to Word 2008).

Yeah, don't we all. Next time your co-worker with Word 2007 goes to lunch,
jump on his machine and do it there.

2007 will save stuff to its Quick Parts galleries. Word 2008 didn't get
that half of the feature.

You can get into "Document Parts.dotx" with BBEdit and do some gruesome
hacks, if you know enough about XML.

But it's easier to just send a Word 2007 user for a left-handed screwdriver,
then use their machine while they are not looking.

Cheers
