crash after paste

JR&word

Hi,

Today Word started to behave weird. Everytime I paste text into it from
another Office application it crashes.

Any idea of what is happening?

Thanks

T

TF

Several possible causes, but start by cleaning out your temp folder. The
temp folder should be empty when all applications close: unfortunately, some
applications misbehave and everytime the system crashes, it leaves abandoned
temp files. See the following link for some pointers on how to clean up:
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm .

Another possibility is a partially corrupt printer driver. Try deleting the
printer and then add it back again. Check to see if you have the latest
driver for your printer first too.

Come back if this still occurs.

Thanks for the answer TF; however, it did not work.

This is what I did (verified it after each test):

- Deleted all files in tmp subdirectory.
- reinstalled office 2003
- reinstalled printer driver

and stil crashes after a paste. This is not only happening in word, but also
excel and outlook (not only in the email editor -aka word- but when creating
a task or an appointment). PowerPoint does not seem to have this problem.

What is funny is that if I copy text from another application, like
notepad, and paste it into the failing programs it works well.

I do not know what else to do!!!

Please try the following (for diagnostics). Start Word in Safe Mode: from
Start, Run and type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word will start in Safe Mode. Test Copy/Paste functions
now. Does this let copy/paste work?

Started in safe mode and same problem. I found in this discussion group
references to the same problem and also followed the tmp cleanup advice but
this does not solve the problem.

The error signature is:

AppName: winword.exe AppVer: 11.0.6359.0 AppStamp: 40c8b025
ModName: mso.dll ModVer: 11.06408.0 ModStamp: 416add54
fdebug: 0 Offset: 001db130

Hope this helps and thanks for the support.

Do you have any third party Clipboard utility installed?

If you copy and use Paste, Special, Unformatted Text, does it still crash?

No, there is no third party clipboard utility for sure. When pasting using
unformatted Text it does not crash. Ctrl-V and dragging and dropping make it
crash for sure. Also when pasting from another application, if it is only
text, then there is no problem, but if what I paste is formatted text, lets
say, from a web page, it also crashes.

Sometimes when editing email in outlook, when outlook updated the name of
the adsresee, it crashes (only word, not outlook). Two or three times it has
crashed without any apparent reason.

What it really makes it weird for me is that it started suddenly yesterday.
I wonder if any kind of virus or anything like that is making this. I have an
updated antivirus running in the background and it has not shown virus
activity, neither a full scan found something.

Thanks for the help.

A strange problem! It may have been caused by an AV update, but it is
unlikely. Try opening Word and from the Help menu run Detect and Repair and
see what happens. Also, try reinstalling the printer driver too.

Nothing!!!

Same problem. Reinstalled printer driver, checked antivirus, reinstalled
office, nothing, same problem. After I paste it crashes. When in oulook, when
it retrieves an address or name when you are emailing, it crashes. And some
other random crashes.

I'm getting crazy now!

Open Word and run Detect and Repair. Then test again. If that doesn't
resolve the problem, I don't think reinstall will do anything either.

Hi!
I would define this problem as: "Office applications crash when formatted
text from other kinds of applications is pasted in".

I have had the same problem many times , both with Word 97, Word 2003 and
Excel 2003.

I have observed that this happens only with certain files, in which I have
pasted formatted text from some other applications such as Internet Explorer,
Outlook Express and Help files. I think it is a good idea to look at any
connection with formatting characters in other appliactions such as above.

When you paste formatted text from applications that use special characters
or signs (such as small graphical elements), you paste those characters into
the Office application too. But in the Office application, they are many
times hidden, and maybe influence the Office appl behaviour in a way that
leads to a crash.

I really wish that the root of this problem would be found.

Regards
M Shafaat
