crash in converting publisher 2000 files to 2003

I am converting Publisher 2000 to 2003 and the large files start to convert
from the earlier version, get three quarters through, and then the screen
freezes, and the program crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to try
to beat that but no luck to date.
