By itself it's not important. "Deprecated" means that it's still
supported, but this may be the last major version of the OS that
supports it. It happens all the time as OS improvements are made. The
deprecated routines provide compatibility for existing software, while
the message lets developers know to use the newer routine in the future.
I'm not familiar with that particular routine, but you should make sure
you apply any updates that MS provides (10.1.2, 10.1.4, and 10.1.5 for
Office v.X, available at MacTopia). Since Office v.X works fine in
Panther, I wouldn't worry about deprecated routines until at least the
10.4 version of OSX.
