crash on selecting new file

Whenever I select "new file" from the toolbar or file menu, excel 2004
(v11.1.1, for what it's worth) quits. Guaranteed. Has anyone else
experienced this & know what causes it? I've tried reinstalling excel,
cleaned caches & repaired permissions & all that other useful stuff, but
to no avail.

Reinstalling XL almost never is necessary, and almost never solves
anything. Try the techniques here:

Make sure you've updated to the latest version. Check that there's
nothing in the

Microsoft Office 2004:Office:Startup:Excel

folder, or an alternate startup folder if you've chosen one
(Preferences/General). Check that you don't have any add-ins loaded that
would fire a macro when a new workbook is loaded.

Given that you've already reinstalled XL, unless you did it using the
Remove Office application, things may be in enough of a mess that you
should use the Remove Office, then reinstall and update.
