Crash on Shut Down

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Whenever I quit word, instead of shutting down, it crashes. I tried uninstalling Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac and then reinstalling it with all new updates, but it still happens. Any ideas?

Here's the first part of the error log:

See the suggestions here pertinent to 'Unexpected Quit on Quitting'... And
in your best interest as well as for your future peace of mind resist the
Windows-centric solution of reinstalling. It's rarely necessary & never the
first step to resolving any issue that arises on a Mac.

I seemed to have fixed this by pulling the folder labeled "Microsoft User Data" out of the library. Will this have any unintended consequences?

Exactly *where* did you locate that folder? What is its specific content?

The Office 2008 MUD folder should not have been where your abbreviated
description indicates you found it. Is there another folder by the same name
in User/Library/Documents/Microsoft? If so, exactly what is in it?

The MUD folder contains much of the user-specific information needed by
Office including the Identities. It would be better to not remove it unil
you're absolutely certain what you're disposing of.

That file contains all of your email and all of your contacts (among other
things...) for Entourage users.

Be aware that you're getting in very deep, and exercise the appropriate care
when making changes this deep...

The MUD should not have been where you describe it as being in the first
place (it should have been in your User/Documents folder). And it would not
have worked if it were in the location you described. Office won't work if
I can't find the MUD.

The best known cause of crash on shutdown is EndNote, which has a bug they
won't fix, the work-around for which is to disable Cite While You Write.

Hope this helps
