Crash when merging shared file w/Protected sheet

Help -

I have an Excel 2002 Shared file, that has a protected
sheet and was shared using "Protect and Share Workbook",
but when I try and merge in the shared files with changes
Excel crashes. The "protected sheet" appears to be the
issue.

Is there a way around this?
