crash when using file or tool pull down menus in Word 2000

Every time I push the file or tools pull down menu Word
automatically shuts down. We've tried everything we can
think of to correct the problem (including installing
again, virus checks, updates, etc.), but still have the
problem. I've lost too much work for this to continue.
