Crashes when trying to filter a table

Starting yesterday, running a filter on the master table
in an accounting-type database crashes Access. I had run
some update queries on the table, and the crashes did not
happen prior to that.

Any thoughts?

There is a good chance that an index has become corrupt.

While Access is not running, create a backup without overwriting any
existing backups. Then open the database and choose Compact/Repair from
Tools | Database Utilities.
